The city of Agde has been completely destroyed and rebuilt several times. Up until the 50s, Agde’s economic activity centred around agriculture, fishing, and tourism. Only the coastal “Quartier” du Grau d’Agde (old fishermen’s village) has been urbanized. The construction of the Cap d’Agde Station in the seventies bolstered local tourism: 14 km of beaches, a marina, a port on the Canal du Midi, a casino, etc..
